2010’s: GoSleep Sleeping Pod
History
This is one of the signs of our times: furniture meets technology meets the internet. GoSleep Sleeping Pod has been designed as a hi-tech sleeping capsule. It was designed and created by a Finnish company GoSleep in 2012. It is being installed in a number of airports including Helsinki, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. GoSleep Sleeping Pod is not the first of its category, but it seems to be the best one so far, gaining worldwide acceptance. Apart from being a reclining sleeping place, it has a few interesting features: a sound resistant, breathable privacy shade, hand luggage storage, a power point, WiFi access, a USB port, and a multimedia touch screen.

Elements and Principles
Form is the main Element, and Balance is the Principle of this futuristic design. Oval and egg-shaped forms of the pod are designed to provide optimum comfort while sleeping inside, and yet, unlike other sleep capsules, they take minimum space outside. The design of the pod is perfectly balanced visually and it balances the traveller’s need for comfortable rest against commercial needs of an airport such as to occupy the minimum of space and be easy to maintain.

Used by Designers
While a novelty in 2015, hi-tech sleeping pods will soon make a strong entrance into many commercial spaces. They are being installed at airport terminals now. Soon we will see them in many spaces such as libraries, university campuses, modern offices, bars, rest rooms in shopping malls, or foyers of hotels. Some will even find their ways to residential rooms of technology and futurism enthusiasts.
Replicas, contemporary interpretations and influences
This is a new complex product and it is trademarked. Although other sleeping pods have been created in the recent years, such as Sleepbox, Podtime, NapCabs, CalmSpace, EnergyPod and MetroNaps, GoSleep sleeping pod seems to be the winning combination for a futuristic piece of furniture.
