ART NOUVEAU: Tiffany Lamps: Wisteria Table Lamp

History

The “Wisteria” table lamp was designed around 1905 by a most talented female designer at Tiffany Studios, Clara Driscoll (1861–1944). This lamp model is numbered 342, and it belongs to a private collection. In 2012 it was sold at Philips Auctions for over half a million US dollars. The interior of shade is stamped four places with ‘TIFFANY STUDIOS’, ‘NEW YORK’, ‘342-1’ and ‘7879’, and the underside of base is stamped with ‘TIFFANY STUDIOS/NEW YORK/342’.

Driscoll is believed to be the hidden genius behind the Tiffany lamps. She created many models of iconic Tiffany lamps , including variations of the Wisteria lamp.
