FEDERATION PERIOD: Edwardian Walnut Wardrobe
History
This is a gorgeous Federation Edwardian wardrobe circa 1900. It belonged to my family, we purchased it from Raffan Kelaher & Thomas antiques valuers and auctioneers in Leichhardt, NSW. It is now privately owned by a family in Beecroft, NSW. It consists of four parts, for easy transportation. The two side doors are shown in a separate picture (below). The side doors open from the outside edge in, which is opposite to how most wardrobe doors would open. The shelves on both left and right are a later addition. The top crown has part of it missing.

Elements and Principles
Lines are the main Element, and Symmetrical Balance is the governing Principle of this design. Vertical and horizontal straight lines of the panels, lines of the draws, as well as straight lines of carvings, and organic lines of the sculptural carvings are all organised in a symmetrical balance of the whole wardrobe, giving it the feel of noble strength and power.
